NEWS & ANALYSIS

AFGHANISTAN (AFGH)

* Afghanistan lost their both matches in this tournament and will be hoping to bounce back in the next match, when they take on New Zealand on Saturday, 08 June.

* They lost their last match against Sri Lanka by 34 runs (D/L method).

* Afghan's bowlers did very well job and bowled out the Sri Lanka for only 201 runs in only 36.5 overs in the first innings. The match was reduced to 41 overs per side due to rain. But, Afghanistan's batsman did not bat well in the cloudy and windy condition. That Condition much helped the Sri Lanka's pacer to get swing in the air.

* Mohammad Nabi picked up four wickets while, Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran picked up two wickets each.

* In batting, Except H Zazai (30), Najubullah Zadran (43) and Skipper Gulbadin Naib (23), none of any batsmen showed their determination in the batting.

* Afghanistan's batsmen did not play their full overs in the both matches, which is the very serious concern for them. The main reason of their failure is their batting inconsistency. Their batsmen did not score collectively in the both matches. Except, Najibullah Zadran, other batsmen did not look consistent. However, Their some batsmen likes of Rahmat Shah, H Zazai and Skipper Gulbadi Naib looked good with bat but could not spent more time on the crease. So, they will have to improve their batting performance against New Zealand .

* Afghanistan's bowling attack is almost depend on their spin trio which is not good for them because, English pitches are suitable to pacers. So, their pacers will also be take responsibility.

* Mohammad Shazad has been ruled out due to Knee injury. Ali Akram Khil is included into the squad.

* Injured/Unavailable:- None

* Key Players :- H Zazai, R Shah, N Zadran , H Shahidi, M Nabi, R Khan, Dawlat Zadran

AFGH Line Ups

* H Zazai and Rahmat Shah will open the batting. Both are very good batsmen and able to score runs. H Zazai is an attacking batsman while, Rahmat Shah is technically strong batsman.

* H. Shahidi will bat at No 03. He is also a very good batsman but could not perform well in the both matches.

* Mohammad Nabi and Najubullah Zadran will bat at No 04 and 05. Both are the backbone of Afghan's middle order. Najibullah Zadran has made much impact with bat in this tournament while, M Nabi did great job with ball in the last match but could not score runs in the both matches.

* Gulbadin Naib, Wicket Keeper Ali Akram Khil and Rashid Khan will be next batsmen at 06, 07 and 08. Gulbadin Naib played a useful innings in the both matches while, Ali Akram Khil and R Khan are also good batter of lower order.

* Dawlat Zadran, Gulbadin Naib and H Hameed will lead the pace attack.

* Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will lead the spin.

New Zealand (NZ)

* New Zealand won their both matches of this tournament and will hope to continue their winning momentum in the next match too.

* They won their last match against Bangladesh by 2 wickets.

* Kiwi's bowlers did very good job in the previous match and restricted the Bangladesh for only 244/10 in the first innings. Bangladesh did not play their 50 overs quota and bowled out in 49.2 overs.

* Matt Henry was very exceptional with ball and picked up 4 wickets while, Trent Boult picked up 2 wickets.

* In batting, New Zealand's duo veteran batsmen Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor did very well batting and helped to New Zealand to win that match. Especially, Ross Taylor was very exceptional with bat and scored 82 runs while, Kane Williamson scored 40 runs.

* After dismissal of their both openers with in first 10 overs, these duo lifted the innings very successfully. In short, these duo i.e Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor are the backbone of Kiwi's batting line ups.

* However, New Zealand won their last match against Bangladesh, but there six batsmen dismissed against Bangladesh's spinner, which is not a good sign for them because Afghanistan have three world class spinner . Hence, New Zealand batsmen need to improve their batting skill against Spinner, otherwise they might go in trouble.

* Their is only one ODI match played between these two teams till now. in which New Zealand defeated to Afghanistan by 6 wickets. Martin Guptill registered a brilliant half century in that match.

* Injured/Unavailable:- None

* Key Players :- Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Colin Munro, James Neesham, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson.

* Tom Latham (Wicket Keeper), Colin de Grandhomme and Jimmy Neesham will be next batsmen. Tom Latham is a technically strong batsman and able to hold the innings while Colin de Grandhomme and Jimmy Neesham are able to do the late hitting duty.
