NEWS & ANALYSIS

PAKISTAN (PAK)

* After defeating their first match against Windies by very worst manner, Pakistan came back in their second match against England very nicely and defeated to England by 14 runs.

* Pakistan's batting , that was very poor in their opening match of this mega events, clicked in bulk in this match and their three batsmen namely Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed have been very exceptional with bat and registered their respective half centuries.

* Mohammad Hafeez was the top scorer with 84 runs while Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Khan scored 63 and 55 runs respectively. Their both openers Imam Ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman provide very good start and shared 82 runs for the opening wicket before the dismissal of Fakhar Zaman(36 runs). Imam Ul Haq scored 44 runs.

* Their trio middle order batsmen Babar Azam, M Hafeez and Skipper S Ahmed turned their opening start into a big total and Pakistan Putted a huge total of 348/8 in the first innings.

* Pakistan's bowling was very formidable in this match and restricted the opposition for only 334 in the second innings and hence, they won by 14 runs. Wahab Riaz picked up three wickets while, Mohammad Amir and Shadab Khan picked up two wickets each.

* Mohammad Amir's , who looked very exceptional with ball in last both matches, brilliant recent form is the very positive sign for the Pakistan because M Amir's bowling performance was so poor during the last one year. Wahab Riaz got reverse swing in the last 10 overs due to his side on bowling action and that was very useful for him in the last match because he picked two wickets in the slog overs in the last match for which England could not chase their total.

* After Including Shoib Malik and Asif Ali in the batting line ups as middle order batsmen, Pakistan's batting line ups is looking very strong rather than opening match. Shaoib Malik is able to stable the innings after early damage while, Asif Ali is a good hitter of ball and has very good recent form in the previous ODI series against England in England. Hence, he might be very effective again in English Condition.

* Pakistan's most of the batsman likes of Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul Haq and Babar Azam have made much impact in their previous series against England just recently and will hope to replicate the same in this match. In middle Order, Mohammad Hafeez and Shaoib Malik also looked very good in the last one or two ODIs in that series.

* Pakistan have hundred percent winning record on the County Ground, Bristol. They played only one match at this ground against Windies in 1999. In which, they defeated to Windies by 27 runs and will hope to continue their winning record at this record after defeating Sri Lanka on Friday, 07 June.

* Babar Azam and Shoib Mallik have tremendous recent ODI record against Sri Lanka. Babar Azam has registered two centuries and two half centuries in the last five matches while, Shoib Malik also registered two half centuries against Sri Lanka in the last four OD matches. Imam Ul Haq has also registered a brilliant century against Sri Lanka in 2017 in Dubai.

* Hasan Ali, who looked very poor with ball in the last both matches, might be replaced by Shaheen Afridi in this match.

* Injured/Unavailable :- None

* Key Players :- Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul Haq, M Hafeez, Shoib Malik, W Riaz, M Ameer

PAK Line Ups

* Fakhar Zaman and Imam Ul Haq will open the batting. Both are very good batsmen and able to provide a good start. Both looked very good with bat in the previous match.

* Babar Azam will bat at No 03. He is one of the most important batsman of the Pakistan batting line ups. He registered a brilliant half century in the previous match and will hope to replicate the same in this match also.

* Mohammad Hafeez and Sarfaraz Ahmed will be next batsmen at No 04 and 05. Both were very exceptional with bat in the previous match registered half centuries.

* Shoib Malik and Asif Ali will be next batsmen. Shoib Malik is a very experienced batsmen while, Asif Ali will do the late hitting duty.

* Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and One of Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi will lead the pace attack. M Amir and W Riaz have very good recent form.

* Shadab Khan will lead the spin along with Mohammad Hafeez and Shoib Malik.

Sri Lanka (SL)

* After loosing their opening match against New Zealand by 10 wickets, Sri Lanka recovered themselves in their previous match against Afghanistan and won by 34 runs (D/L method).

* Although, Sri Lanka won their last match against Afghanistan, but their batting did not looked in good touch again in this match and they bowled out for only 201 runs in 36.5 Overs in the first Innings.

* Except Kusal Perera, who scored brilliant 78 runs, none of other batsmen showed their determination in batting. However, Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (30) and Lahiru Thirimanne (25) got their start but could not capitalise it into the big knock.

* Sri Lanka's middle order batting is the main issue for them. Opener Dimuth Karunaratne who scored brilliant half century in the opening match and Kusal Perera who was very exceptional with bat in the previous match, none of other batsmen looked in good touch which is not the good sign for them in the upcoming matches.

* Continue failure of Kusal Mendis and Veteran Angelo Mathews in middle order is the very serious cause for them. Sri Lanka's middle order is mostly depend on these duo batsmen. If Sri Lanka want to chase or Put a handy total then these duo will have to perform solid in middle order Otherwise they can not turn the result in their favour against the Strong Pakistan.

* Thisara Perera, who has the most average in batting during the last two years for Sri Lanka, has been also failed to bat in the both matches.

* Overall, it is observed that, After batting at No 03 i.e Kusal Perera, none of any Sri Lanka's batsman has good form.

* In their current squad of Sri Lanka, Only Lahiru Thirimanne has some good recent record against Pakistan in the last few matches.

* Injured/Unavailable :- None
