NEWS & ANALYSIS

Sri Lanka (SL)


* Sri Lanka are placed at the seventh position at point table with 2 wins, 2 loses and 2 Not results after six matches.

* They performed very well in the previous match and defeated to strong England by 20 runs.

* This was the low scoring match. Sri Lanka putted 232/9 in the first Innings. Their batting failed again in this match. Both inform batsmen D Karunaratne and Kusal Perera dismissed earlier for the team score was just 3 runs on the board. Then, Avishka Fernando (49) and both out of form batsmen K Mendis (46) and Angelo Mathews (85* runs) lifted the innings and they finally putted 232/9 in the first Innings.

* Their bowling did really very great job in this match. Lasith Malinga was very exceptional with ball and picked four wickets while, Dhananjaya de silva picked three. Isuru Udana also picked two wickets. These trio restrict England at 212 runs.

* However, Sri Lanka won the last match, but their batting is still a very big issue for them. Although, their both openers D Karunaratne and Kusal Perera have been among runs. Avishka Fernando who played his first match in the tournament and scored 49 runs and K Mendis and A Mathews also looked very good in the previous match. But, they need to perform collectively in batting for a good total on the board.

* Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews will bat at No 03, 04 and 05. These trio did not score much runs in this tournament but, very brilliant with bat in the previous match.

* Dhananjay De Silva and Thisara Perera will be next batsmen. Thisara Perera is able to hit the ball cleanly. D De Silva was very exceptional with bowl in the previous match.

* Jeevan Mendis will bat next.

* Lasith Malinga, N Pradeep and Thisara Perera will lead the pace attack along with Isuru Udana.

SOUTH AFRICA (SA)


* One of the tournament favourite,South Africa were very disappointed with their performance in this tournament and they are Currently placed at the ninth position at point table with One win and five loses after seven matches. Their One match has been abandoned due to rain

* They lost their last match against Pakistan by 49 runs.

* South Africa's batting failed again in the last match and they scored only 259/9 in the second winning while, they were chasing 309 runs target. Skipper Faf du Plessis registered a magnificent half century with scored 63 runs. Quinton de Kock and Andile Phehlukwayo also scored 47 and 46 runs respectively. Except these trio, none of any batsmen showed their determination in batting. However, Rassie van der Dussen (36) and David Miller (31) also got their start but could not covert into a big knock.


* South Africa have faced issues in both, the batting and the bowling. Their batting did not click collectively. However, their some batsmen likes of Quinton de Kock, Faf du plessis and Rassie Van der Dussen have been among runs but they need to more consistent in batting. Hashim Amla also found his form in the last few matches. But, their main issues is their middle order batting. Aiden Markram and David Miller did not bat well in this tournament yet, which is the main issues for them in batting.

* Their bowling performance is also in not in form. Kagiso Rabada, who has been very exceptional in the recently played IPL, looked very average in this tournament so far. Due to Rabada's poor form, South Africa's pace attack has been very poor in this tournament.
